What Another Conservative Wants

Having no stake in the affairs of the Catholic church my only concerns are for the pope as a man and as a servant of God. Death is not an end for a Christian and prayer is not an incantation. It is not uncommon to feel relief when a sick loved one passes on and that relief reveals a heart actually hoping for that result. The compassionate look on all those who suffer and hope for that suffering to pass quickly.

Prayer is not a "to do" list sent to God any more than a conversation with your friend is an attempt to bring him under your power. Prayer builds a relationship and expressing your hopes and opinions is a vital part of that process. But God is sovereign and the proper understanding was expressed when Christ said, "Your will, not mine."

My hope is for God's will to be done in the life of His faithful servant. May his suffering be eased and his time with us be as long as is necessary to accomplish his charge. And may that be true for the rest of us as well.
