Red Patriotism

Look like political PATRIOT's are really Soviets. The jist, the Feds can look at anything under the very specific title of potential threat, there is no oversight, records are kept even if the target is innocent (a new change), and over 30,000 probes are launched by random, unaccountable beurocrats every year. But don't worry, one, this is not abused (and since that kind of power never is, rest easy), and two, if your not guilty why should you care.

It's the accumulation of voluntarily provided data by high-profile corporations that makes these businesses as easily exploitable as their customers. Chair of the board or next-door-neighbor, who during a war wants to look suspicious, especially when offered the opportunity to set the record straight?

Your interests and associations will--with your cooperation--remain a private matter between you and the authorities--federal, state, and local. (Like it's anybody else's business!)

So Bush should be fired for not getting the accurate intelligence neccessary to ward off 9/11 and should be reviled for trying to get more accurate intelligence. When you hate someone you sure don't cut any slack. I'll bet you think he only feeds Barney to fatten him up and eat him alive.

As for your concerns about the Patriot Act, I think you do have some legitimate beefs. But I'm confused how something can be challenged in court (as the article makes clear)and also be said to have no oversight. Isn't the right to challenge it's legality a check on the abuse of power?

First, and most importantly, I do not "hate" Bush. I don't think he's "evil," or is "out to destroy the world." I've met the guy, and like him. I have critiqued many people and have not hated any of them. In fact, I've fired people for incometence, and not hated them. I've coached teams and not let kids I like play becasue they weren't good enough. I've taken harsh reviews and not felt like the reviewer hated, or was out to get me. Must have been tough getting through school when every A- was a clear indication that the teached hated you. I hoped that you were above the "if you say anything bad about Bush, you must be a screaming, hate filled liberal" argument.

Second, only someone served with a letter to turn over info can fight it, for now. Even then, most of the information is under National Security protection meaning that defense lawyers, and even the judge, lack have access to all of the information. So, citizen protection comes when someone has the guts to say "no" to a FBI agent, lays it on the line for someone they don't know, takes it to court (at their expense), where no information is given, to anyone about the case. All the while, the named person on the letter will never know, and any information gained is kept forever. I'm sorry, but that doesn't seem at all like anything even remotely resembling "oversight."

Its more that I hate beets, and beets are grown in this country, therefor I have to hate this country. So you see, my hands are tied here. But, I love ice-cream, and ice-cream is made in this country too. Its usually at this point that I take a nap.
