De Soto on the Hudson

How do you solve the crisis of 200,000 people living in public housing projects? Give them the apartment . I haven’t worked through all of the implication yet but this could be a great idea.

De Soto could solve so many of our problems if we would only let him!

I think the idea is very interesting. Fiscally it makes great sense. Though, it does offend on some level that scores of drug dealers and gang-bangers will reap a windfall in the short term.

Have you noticed that middle calss kids tend to not be drug dealers and gang bangers? Pulling families out of the ghetto means less drug dealers, drug users and gang bangers.

Yes, but they don't stop dressing like them. What's your solution to that, tough guy?

I'm for it, just to have 100,000 people for the socio/economic experiment of what happens when you give 100,000 poor people $1,000,000.

I predict:

A decent sized group will never see the money as they will be swindled from their share before they get it.

Another group will be swindled almost immediately after.

After that, the Jerry Jones' famous experiment will be in play (JJ said if you took all the people in America, redistributed the wealth equally, it would just be a matter of time before the rich were rich again, and the poor were poor again).

Also, I'm for the idea because I like the economic reasons outlined in the article. Really novel approach, and I have no problem with some people hitting the "lottery." Sometimes folks are in the right place at the right time.
