Circle, Circle, Dot, Dot, Now I've Got a Coercive Public Policy
Q: What do chickenpox, hepatitis, and measles have in common with the human papillomavirus, or HPV?
A: Less than is reasonable for requiring 11- and 12-year-old girls to have the vaccine to register for public or private school classes in Florida. Of the four diseases, HPV is the only one that can be spread solely through genital contact. Lawmakers, take a deep breath. All you'll catch is a whiff of grandstanding legislators and the millions Merck no doubt stands to make at the expense of families' rights to clearly choose what belongs in their children's bodies.

I meant to write about this when Texas Gov. Rick Perry made it mandatory for girls entering the 6th grade in TX to get the vaccine.
Beyond providing furhter evidence (both Govs are Republcans) that the in the GOP, Old has long left the building and all that's left (ha) is Grand Party which is an apt name given the new direction of using government power and wealth to control every action they endorse. GNP?
You can probably guess but I'm completely against this vaccine. However, it is good to hear that the GOP is coming to grips with the fact that teens are having sex, and that bad things can happen if its unprotected. It's the latter part that they seem to wrestle with as neither bill requires any additional sex education. How is it that they're comfortable with a mandatory shot, but still want to keep the young'uns in the dark? "Shhhh, just take this shot and don't ask any questions."
Condom use and sex ed bring down unwanted pregnancies, which bring down abortions, and protect against HPV, while some studies suggest that actual sex goes down as sex education goes up. All without infringing on a parents right, or the child's for that matter, to control what goes into said child's body.
Who would have thought that the big beast of health care wouldn't be a Kennedy, but two Republicans from solidly "conservative" states?
Well said. This, too: http://www.reason.com/news/show/118758.html
And now for the happy ending:
